Luminescence and brilliance of color are considered to be signs of the health, wellbeing, and beauty that the Aboriginal people from Balgo Hills, in far northwest Australia, believe originated from the Ancestral Beings. In the thirty paintings reproduced here, artists from nine tribal groups of the area use a palette of uninhibited color to tell stories of the Dreaming, or Dreamtime. Each painting is created from the perspective of an aerial view and reveals the physical features of the lanscape as well as the presence of animals and humans-while powerfully reflecting the richness and vitality of the Aboriginal culture.
