Arts and Crafts 1875-1915 jellemzők

The Arts and Craft style began in Great Britain as an ideological reaction to the effects of nineteenth century industrialization. At one time, mass production was believed to be displacing artisanal pride with a diminished regard for quality and craftsmanship. The essential aims of the movement were to revive the medieval guild system, reestablish high quality standards of workmanship, and make the idea of truth to materials the basis of design. The Arts and Crafts style sought to revive the joy of labor and espoused values of honesty, simplicity, and idyllic domesticity, with an emphasis on creating unique, handcrafted objects. In 1998 Norwest Bank Minnesota generously donated its entire corporate Modernism collection to The Minneapolis Institute of Arts. This book of postcards consists on thirty works from that collection, illustrating the extraordinary range of styles identified with the Arts and Crafts movement. Pomegranate's books of postcards contain thirty top-quality reproductions bound together in a handy, artful collection. Easy to remove and produced on heavy card stock, these stunning postcards are a delight to the sender and receiver.
