When she was six years old, Kati Marton - author, news correspondent, and human rights advocate - watched the Hungarian secret police arrest her parents, both of them journalists who were declared "enemies of the people" by the communist state. When the family immigrated to the United States two years later in 1957, her mother and father were welcomed as heroes, although neither of them would speak openly about their past.
