Handbook of Korean Art jellemzők

The Folk Painting volume from the Handbook of Korean Art series presents an in-depth survey of a unique way of Korean painting that flourished during the 18th to the early 20th centuries. Viewed at the time as inferior to the traditional mainstream of classical Chinese scholar paintings, Korean folk painting was the work of humble artists who declined and indeed, were probable unable to inscribe the date or their names on their masterpieces. While reflecting Chinese influences and themes prominent in earlier literati paintings, the folk paintings represent distinctly Korean techniques, compositions, subject matters and style. Yeol-su Yoon organises 314 illustrations by subject which include scholars bookshelves, flowers, birds, mountains, rivers the 10 long life symbols and dragons.
