On the Stage of Europe jellemzők
This volume owes its existence to a generous and patriotic donation. Dr. László Csontos who emigrated to England in 1956, in his will just before his death in 1994, entrusted the Hungarian Academy of Science with the execution of his vision: to ensure that readers, Hungarians and foreigners alike, would recognise "the millennial contribution of Hungary to the idea of the European community". Accordingly, this work seeks to fulfil his wishes.
Instead of producing a traditional, illustrated history book, we decided to create one where the pictures would assert European consciousness in the universal language of their own. The interpretation of the pictures is facilitated by analyses, and a thousand years of Hungarian history outlined by eminent Hungarian scholars.
