View of Egypt and Nubia jellemzők

The superb lithographs by David Roberts in this book of postcards were produced from sketches Roberts made during and expedition to the Near East in 1838-1839. Confronted by the stark austerity of the Egyptian landscape, Roberts added human figures and altered architectural features to convey the emotions the subject evoked in him. These thirty magnificent images are reproduced from "Views of Egypt and Nubia" the final section of his monumental "The Holy Lands: Syria, Idumea, Arabia, Egypt and Nubia", which is widely considered to one of the finest examples of the art of tinted lithography.
